plaid. the pattern.

We couldn't have a name like Plaid, and not have our own custom Plaid pattern. We've created a pattern, and possible color scheme, that we're really liking.

For future design and printing purposes, it's important that we create a pattern that can be reproduced digitally. So anything photographic wouldn't work. The pattern needs to be vector art - so that our identity has maximum flexibility, for any possible use.

David created the scheme reflecting three possible colors, above. We could assign a color to a different service offering, or just mix 'em up. Lots of options.

We're feelin' it. What do you think?

If you're going brown as the base I think the blue is the way to go, definitely want some contrast. Having said that, are you sure you want to go brown as the base? I'm trying to think of really successful brown usage other than UPS.

You have no idea how hard this was for me personally - I'm really not fond of the color brown. But the point you make is one of the reasons we like it:

+ Extremely unique, and especially rare among design & branding firms;

+ Very current color without being too trendy. Uber hot in architectural/interior design.

+ The exact opposite of everything web2.0 (for now)

+ Gives a good dark contrast, without being blue, black, or charcoal - like everyone else.

The more we discussed it, the more we loved it.

(Just don't ask me to wear brown jeans.)

Thoughts?

I definitely think the unique factor makes it THE way to go. Setting yourself apart is key, and doing it thoughtfully (as you said, brown is hot in interior design) is a really smart way to go about it.

I'm liking the brown and blue a lot. I actually recently did a brown/orange and I'm not thrilled with it because it reads as pretty monotone - http://wecx.eckerd.edu/

My only other suggestion is 100% magenta. No one is using that yet, but mark my words, it is going to be HUGE.

As long as it's not a Martha Stewart plaid.

Hey, I think it should be called "rubrics" because the pattern looks like the rubric's cube!

Plus "plaid" is already taken.

i agree that the blue on brown is hot. you need the warm/cool contrast. it really pops.

Hey, I totally love these patterns. I personally love interior designing, and I've been using these for patterns in some of my plans. The colors really help in bringing out the room!
